Chosen, Redeemed, and Sealed

The Apostle Paul opens his letter to the Ephesians with a summary of the work of the triune God in redemption, showing us that salvation is from first to last the accomplishment of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This message will explore how we are chosen by the Father, redeemed by the Son, and sealed with the Holy Spirit, looking to the teaching of Ephesians 1:3–14 on these subjects.

Scott Ardavanis

From Death to Life

In demonstrating the grace of salvation, Paul tells us that human beings in Adam are not spiritually sick but spiritually dead. Therefore, we cannot bring ourselves to new spiritual life, nor can our good works give us a right standing with God. This message will consider Ephesians 2:1–10 and its instruction on our deadness in sin, God’s sovereign work of regeneration, and salvation by grace alone through faith alone that bears fruit in good works.

The Mystery of the Church Revealed

Jesus Christ came to save not only the people of Israel but also people from every tribe and
tongue, making us all co-heirs with Him in the church. This message will help us understand the
mystery of the church by taking us through Ephesians 3:1–13 and considering its presentation
of the eternal purpose of God and how the new covenant has made it clear that gentiles and
Jews are fellow heirs in Christ, having the same rights and privileges in Him.

Building the Church

God saves His people, bringing them together in the church and building them up in faith and
love through their ministry one to another. This message will look at the work of our Lord in
building His church, focusing especially on the importance of sound teaching in building up the
body of Christ as Paul describes it in Ephesians 4:1–16.

The Church’s Way of Life

Having been saved by grace alone through faith alone, believers are given a distinctive ethic
that is to shape their lives and enable them to please God. This message will consider the
Christian ethic as outlined in Ephesians 5:1–21 and what it means to serve the Lord honestly
and faithfully in all that we do.

The Church’s Warfare

Having redeemed us from sin, Satan, and death, God has enlisted us as soldiers in His army,
called to wage spiritual warfare against the enemy until Christ returns and giving us armor and
weapons for the battle. This message will look at spiritual warfare and the armor of God as
described in Ephesians 6:10–20, guiding us in what it means to be strong in the Lord.
